A Zoo in China Will Stop Feeding Live Puppies to Snakes

A zoo in northern China is to stop feeding live puppies to pythons after a video of feeding time provoked outrage.

Footage and pictures taken and posted by a visitor at the Riverside Zoo in Pingdingshan, Henan province, show a live puppy near a python in a box, with another picture showing a large yellow python with several bulges coiling around a small puppy in an enclosure and apparently devouring it, The South China Morning Post reported Sunday.

A zoo employee told the Beijing Morning Post Friday that the puppies were fed to the snakes, but that it was not official zoo policy.

The staff member said a contract worker at the park was responsible for feeding.

“We have spoken to the person and instructed him to stop such actions,” the employee was quoted as saying.

The zoo visitor told British tabloid MailOnline last week she saw a puppy being fed to a snake during visiting hours.

“I don’t understand why the zookeeper had to do so. I suspect they had found a litter of puppies in the park, so they decided to feed them to the snakes,” Zi Yue told the publication.

Pictures showing the feeding were posted by Zi on social media, and went viral.

Animal welfare organization PETA Asia joined in criticism of the zoo, with a spokesman saying in a statement the incident was “yet another example of the importance of an animal protection law and why China needs to implement one.”

It said there are no laws prohibiting the mistreatment of domestic animals in China, with conservation laws only protecting wild animals.

This is only the tip of the iceberg. The Chinese are some really vile and nasty people. Women will give birth right on the street and throw their babies in the trash. They have no regard for human life. They also eat puppies.

I think I’m gonna be sick. Should we just seriously consider wiping out half of the planet?

#5

It wasn’t zoo policy. Snake feeding was subcontracted out.

Defending a Chinese zoo for feeding puppies to snakes.

#7

Misrepresenting the story???

#8

Come on Monte,Lets be real !!!How can you be this uncapassionate about this!!!

#9

What makes you think that. I’m not condoning or supporting anything. I just was pointing to what the op link says, sense it seems to be getting ignored in an interest in further demeaning China. The Chinese zoo system doesn’t have a policy of feeding pups to snakes, a subcontractor was caught doing that and the Zoo has addressed the problem. Not unlike things that happen right here in America. In fact, Americans are far more likely to murder one another than the Chinese are, for those who seem determined to take a swipe at China whenever the opportunity presents itself.

The Chinese don’t have a system for preventing the torture of domestic animals either.

#11

So are mice being tortured when they are fed to snakes. Are crabs being tortured when they are dropped in the boil alive?

  1. There is a zoo in China.
  2. That zoo fed puppies to snakes.
  3. People got upset.
  4. The zoo in China that fed puppies to snakes will now stop feeding puppies to snakes.

It was not the Zoo’s policy. You’re perpetuating the deception.

The attraction has admitted the puppies were fed to its resident pythons - but claims the practice was carried out by the reptile hall’s private owners.

It says the owners’ actions “have nothing to do with us” - but that the director “has summoned them and asked them to stop”.

Perpetuating the deception? Are you the defender of China now too?

Just the truth…
