Ford is Moving all US Small Vehicle Production to Mexico

Trump needs to get elected to put an end to this nonsense once and for all. Ford didn’t take any money from the Auto Bailout but they did take 5 Billion dollars from taxpayers provided by the Department of Energy to modernize factory production here in the states for more fuel efficient vehicles. Now they are moving those operations to Mexico.

In a Jan. 30, 2009, report on the bailout program, the Congressional Research Service noted that Ford “is counting on $5 billion from the DOE loan program to support a $14 billion plan to reorient its lineup toward more fuel-efficient vehicles.”

On June 23, 2009, the Department of Energy announced it would provide $5.9 billion to Ford “to transform factories across Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio to produce 13 more fuel efficient models.”

These stories aggravate me more than most anything else these days. These automotive companies get sizeable tax breaks and grants at the expense of the American taxpayer and them pull pitch and head to Mexico taking manufacturing jobs with them. This just shows how broken NAFTA really is and how much it hurts Americans. The government should demand all tax dollars back immediately and cancel any tax breaks given to Ford.

Good for Ford and good for capitalism! If the government and the unions didn’t strangle the auto industry so bad in the US, maybe there’d be more manufacturing jobs kept here.

Don’t blame the business.

Just wondering if the liberals will demand those workers get $15 per hour ?

You are correct. The wonderful thing about capitalism is choice. Ford can move their production facilities wherever they want and we can choose not to buy their products as a result. I also think labor union demands have propelled the decline of American manufacturing, but so too has NAFTA and CAFTA.

To your point @Anna - no private sector business should be receiving government subsidies.
