Republicans Prove the Christian Formula is Broken

#1

Every day we see Sarah Huckabee Sanders get on the podium and lie like there is no consequence. Jerry Fallwell shills for Trump even though he is the antithesis of Christian values. I could go on. How and why is it that good Christians (as they would tell you they are) would do these things? Its because the Christian formula is broken. The thing that kept Christians from doing the wrong thing was the fear of Hell. Eternal damnation. It seems rather obvious that in today’s world the fear of Hell isnt the motivator to do the right thing like it used to be. I’ve always wanted someone to ask SHS is she believes in Hell, because if she did, I would be interested in knowing how she plans to avoid it when she lies (a sin that would damn a Christian to Hell) every day.

I’ve always thought of Christianity to be a horribly hypocritical philosophy where you get to pick which parts of the holy texts you wish to observe and be done with the rest…but evangelical support of Trump just makes that all the more true…hypocrites one and all.

So tell me, what are these Christian values you speak of? I will tell you one and it is not a value or some construct it is one command Christ gave.

Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

Men are the leaders of the Christian home (if they are not present or are weak the woman takes the lead but the man keeps the duty) and they have been commanded to protect their wives (that means kids as well). This means all threats and discrimination is something helpful in discerning threats. Do you see where I am going here?

Pretty much all the formulas for everything we equate with civilization break all the time. They’re “adjustable,” because they were made up and written by men, not actual gods. Hypocrisy is a symptom of not really committing, in our hearts, to the beliefs we say we’re committed to. Being a follower of a belief that claims to be based on peace is fairly easy in normal, calm times, but the rubber of belief really meets the road when extreme stuff starts to happen. Trump is in the lead carriage of a train of potentially very extreme stuff. Falwell and quite a few more are making their “adjustments.”

Well, regardless of where the Bible came from or who imparted its wisdom, their has to be a reason that it is the longest standing, most read book ever… I don’t think that ‘What Happened’ is going to have much affect on anyone… of course those who actually study the bible know very well that people, most certainly liberals, can and do take scripture out of context for their own purposes… but those who actually study the bible know that it is far more complex than most any other book ever written.

This is a representation of just 65000 of the cross references in the Holy Bible. The relate to each other… they accentuate the meanings of each other… note the many references between the beginning Genesis and the end, Revelations… just how much of what is written in those pages do you know? The Bible, unlike your Relative moralist culture bending value system has stood the test of time… kind of like free trade verses communism…but dare I say with far more significance…

Herd mentality, an inability to deal with reality. You get 80 years and you’re out of here, gone forever. Hard for the evolved human to contend with. So you have religions around the world that have themselves evolved over time as coping mechanisms. Nearly all provide the promise of continuing life in one form or another.

#6

At least some people have beliefs which apparently you don’t have.

Easy to be critical from the back seat.

#7

They’re willing to swallow the lack of character for the policies, shrug. Have you ever seen a Trump supporter concede that they’d ditch the TIC if he murdered someone on fifth ave??

#8

Well yes- you will be.

For myself, I have faith; I don’t bludgeon (verbally or otherwise) atheists,or other religions, because there is no need to. You will experience God in your life or you won’t - quite simple. While there are some who see their mission in life as being evangelists, I don’t, other Christians I know don’t either. Neither do we put down those who have no faith.

This s in stark contrast to Atheists, who, unable to hold down the urge to self validate, insult religion directly, and often the religious directly.

That is the core of the matter; the second sentence is just plain silly. Trump is just a beter alternative to Democrat rule. Someone like Feddo was the outlier in the soiled Che t-shirt, hoping his socialist drivel-fests might get him laid. Today the Democratic party is being taken over by Feddos; the more the public knows it, the more the GOP will win elections.

Believing in something doesn’t make it so.

#10

Here… in this life and form perhaps but… just how positive are you that ‘out of here’ is the finally? Far to many people have seen and felt the physical manifestations of people who have died decades ago to dismiss their experiences out of hand and what with multiple dimensions… just how sure that when you are ‘out of here’, you aren’t put on an express train to a destination that you do not get to choose but a journey that you WILL take none the less. Something about the arrogance of an atheist… There are a million things you never knew you never knew…

#11

Have you ever heard it come up as a serious topic of discussion except by the same people who constantly talk about his combover…

#12

and… not believing in something that you can’t see like anti matter … makes it what? Far to much of scripture actually aligns with the science we see around us… perhaps present day science just can’t see what is right in front of it… Quarks always existed… they were just easier to imagine for some that other things…

What is Russian Collusion? Also, this entire OP

And you will be too. Muslim faith is strong too. In the Bible, god inspires Job with a view of a flat earth with corners. Of course that was the believed state of the earth amongst mankind at the time, so the Bible, written by men, no doubt would describe the earth so. And of course the Catholic Church excommunicated Galileo for pointing out the truth that the earth revolves around the sun. After finally acquiescing to science, the church formally apologized to Galileo’s decedents in 1996. The church bends to science, and not the other way around.

A circle is not sphere.

Revelation 7:1 says, “I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth.”

Some people are loath to read Shakespeare and understand his prose either… So tell me… does the sun rise in the east and set in the west? and when someone talks about the sun rising and setting and racing to rise again… isn’t that really what happens?

Isaiah 22 was quite clear about that the shape of the earth was… and it had no corners

It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

The actual Hebrew word was ‘kanaph’ … a vague discriptor of 'extremities’
Their are at least four Hebrew words that could have been used that would have conveyed the exact meanings of things like cornerstone, geometric corner or right angle, but none of them were used in the original Hebrew text.

While the Greeks were credited for being the first to suggest that the earth was spherical, sixth century B.C., Pythagoras suggested a spherical Earth.

Eratosthenes of Alexandria approx 200BC calcuated the circumference of the Earth to within 50 miles of current calculations

I was of course the Roman Empire that pressed the flat earth concept… and who was the Catholic church to disagree… you mistake the words and meanings of the bible with organized religious organizations that came much later…

Like climate change???

#17

That applies to so many things like climate change, trans gender, atheism, etc. You get the point.

#18

So feddo it would seem you feel the same way about Muslims as Christians. Maybe mores as they are far more fanatical.
