Why it will be much more expensive ?
Report finds Chinese steel heavily subsidized .
Shougang Group got more than $1.5 billion yuan ($225.4 million) in subsidies such as tax benefits and preferential loans, at a time when Chinese capacity utilitization was as low as 65.8 percent, the report found.
The Chinese government has supported the country’s steel industry primarily through cash grants, equity infusions, government-mandated mergers and acquisitions, preferential loans and directed credit, land use subsidies, subsidies for utilities, raw material price controls, tax policies and benefits, currency policies, and lax enforcement of environmental regulation, according to the report.http://www.nwitimes.com/business/steel/report-finds-chinese-steel-heavily-subsidized/article_40f3f325-f230-5ff5-a57b-675200e5d0de.html

U.S. finds China aluminum foil imports dumped, subsidized .
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Commerce Department said on Tuesday it had made a final determination that imports of aluminum foil from China are being sold in the United States at less than their fair value and producers are benefiting from subsidies from Beijing. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trade-aluminum/u-s-finds-china-aluminum-foil-imports-dumped-subsidized-idUSKCN1GB2QQ

Trump Officially Signs Tariffs

EUROPE BTFO

The tariffs will go into effect in 15 days and include exemptions for Canada and Mexico.

Tariffs of 25% are to be placed on steel and 10% on aluminium imported into the US.

They will apply to all countries except Canada and Mexico, which will be exempt while discussions over the North America Free Trade Agreement (Nafta) take place.

That’s a pathetic response by the EU. It just means that their people will end up paying more for peanut butter and orange juice - European countries can’t make that themselves.

#65

Don’t forget China is not just subsidizing Chinese steel and aluminum !
They are subsidizing Home Depot , Walmart , Sam’s Club , Sears anyone who imports that cheap Chinese junk !
When the politicians start whining about tariffs and trade wars they don’t care about working Americans the object of their affection is the swamp !

#66

HEY! Well perhaps I will have the opportunity to help get some US manufacturing going! Part of our cost problem is sorry ass, lazy ass hourly employees! Plenty of great ass busters out there but they take up the slack for the shit employees.

#67

Now that’s for damn sure.

#68

Do you think that the US makes steel? Very little. The US imports more steel then any other country in the world.

#69

Wrong again !!! Yawn :point_right::weary:
In 2014, the Iron and steel industry in the United States was the world’s third-largest producer of raw steel (after China and Japan), and the sixth-largest producer of pig iron. The industry produced 29 million metric tons of pig iron and 88 million tons of steel. Most iron and steel in the United States is now made from iron and steel scrap, rather than iron ore. The United States is a major importer of iron and steel, and iron and steel products.

In the week ending on March 3, 2018, domestic raw steel production was 1,834,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 78.7 percent. Production was 1,747,000 net tons in the week ending March 3, 2017 while the capability utilization then was 74.9 percent. The current week production represents a 5.0 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending March 3, 2018 is up 2.9 percent from the previous week ending February 24, 2018 when production was 1,783,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 76.5 percent.http://www.steel.org/about-aisi/statistics.aspx

The US is one of the most natural resource rich countries in the world. We could make plenty of our own steel and iron. Using ore vs recycling is irrelevant because iron is one resources that can be melted down over and over again without losing quality.

#71

Yes, I’m well aware of that, and we have before and as long as the air, water and land is properly safe guarded, I have no problem with us doing it.

#72

“The United States is the world’s largest steel importer.”

#73

“Do you think that the US makes steel? Very little.” America is the third largest producer of steel in the world !!!
We are operating at around 74% of our production capacity !
So we need to build more steel mills and stop buying steel from out side of our country !
Tariffs will help make America work again !

#74

One of those NIMBY kind of people huh… Liberals tend to be that way with most things… rather than being deeply involved in personal charitable works they just push for a tax on other people to cover the cost and go skydiving while someone else does the work…

#75

We import more oil than we use too… that doesn’t mean that we can’t be self sufficient… but you NIMBY attitude would rather see our wealth exported to fuel your world.

#76

#77

America is the THIRD LARGEST PRODUCER OF STEEL IN THE WORLD !!!
Only China and Japan make more steel then America in this WORLD !!
If America make more steel in America we would import less steel and that is what the Tariffs are for !
Americas steel mills will make all the steel we need and export the surplus !
President Trump is keeping his promise to Americas working class !

#78

That fat ass lives in ivory towers with gold plated toilet seats and doesn’t give a fuck about you and your dirty blue color, and he’s never been where your at and hasn’t a clue what it’s like.

#79

Hey man, you want to tone down that aggressiveness a little bit?

#80

As long as the air, water and soil is shown respect, who’s complaining. What you don’t realize is that in the BEST CASE scenario that you could imagine in slumber, the fat ass TIC is in Washington for 6 years 10 months and then as long as you and the rest keep voting for democrats and republicans, globalization resumes!!! So, if you want real lasting change, then it starts with YOU!!!
